Swimming Admissions

The Park Leisure Centre Swimming Pool has updated its Child Admissions Policy to increase the safety of children.

Swimming pool child admission policy

All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the water by a responsible person 16 years or over who is a competent swimmer.

This person may be responsible for up to two children under the age of 8.

The accompanying person must ensure that all non-swimmers wearing armbands or buoyancy jackets remain in the shallow end of the Training pool.

The accompanying person must maintain a constant watch over the children for whom they are responsible.

The use of approved swimming aids for under 8’s and non-swimmers is recommended.

Spectators cannot supervise children under 8 in the water. Spectators must use the café viewing area.

 Swim test

In order to assist poolside staff, assessing safe swimming ability, a CIMSPA/ASA standard swim test is required for any child aged 0-15 years using the Training pool deep end who the lifeguard identifies as a non or weak swimmer.

The following test criteria can be completed in any order:

  • Swim 50 metres (to the satisfaction of the lifeguard)

  • Tread water for 1 minute

  •  Be able to either: submerge head / mushroom float / surface dive

If the child cannot do the above they must remain in the shallow end of the pool accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 or over who is a competent swimmer.

Please ask a member of staff if you have any questions.

The test is to keep all swimmers safe during their swim and is not designed to spoil anybody’s fun!

Persons aged 16 and over using the swimming pools

Non swimmers must remain in the shallow end of the Training pool.

Weak swimmers should remain within their own depth of water.

The use of approved swimming aids for non-swimmers is recommended.
